Following the call of Delyan Peevski, the leader of MRF and MRF Parliamentary Group - NEW BEGINNING, who insisted on tightening the regimes for the use of individual electric vehicles (e-scooters) in the Road Traffic Act, all municipalities led by MRF-NEW BEGINNING have now issued regulations restricting the use of e-scooters and increasing traffic control in built-up areas.
The call for local authorities to become more active was also followed by most municipalities in the country. Resolving this acute social problem requires unity and determination from politicians at all levels of government.
Delyan Peevski, the leader of the MRF, insisted on these measures due to the huge increase in e-scooter accidents across the country, requiring intervention by the authorities to protect people's lives and health. There have been dozens of scooter accidents over the last few days alone, including severe injuries to children and the death of one man.
In order to carry out effective control and for these measures to produce results, actions need to be taken by local authorities. Thus mayors and municipal councils of municipalities have issued relevant documents which regulate the use of e-scooters and designate deputy mayors who are responsible for carrying out the control.
These regulations prohibit transportation with e-scooters on the main streets, pavements and all pedestrian areas, parks and gardens; they limit the speed to 25 km/h and introduce a minimum age of 16s, as well as the obligation to use personal protective equipment.
MRF-NEW BEGINNING is consistent in pursuing its mission to protect people's lives and health, as well as the responsibility to ensure their security and life in European Bulgaria as much as possible.
