In times of crises, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) has always played a responsible role, MRF leader Mustafa Karadayi said at the consultations called by president Rumen Radev to discuss the formation of a new cabinet. On July 15, the head of state held talks with the parliamentary parties before offering the third mandate to form a government within the term of the current 47th National Assembly. A new cabinet is needed after the resignation of the Council of Ministers led by Kiril Petkov. The government was ousted by a parliamentary vote of no confidence on June 22 but is still functioning until a new one is elected to replace it.
Along with Karadayi, deputy chairs of the MRF Ahmed Ahmedov, Yordan Tsonev and Stanislav Anastassov also took part in the consultations conducted by President Radev at 2 Dondukov Boulevard.
Yes, there will be early elections, but the question is when they will be and what do we do with them. We will bear our responsibility, Karadayi firmly said.
You have already declared that you see a way out of the political crisis in early parliamentary elections. But your party has gained many years of experience both in parliamentarism and in governing the state, which also implies responsibility towards the Bulgarian citizens, President Radev said at the beginning of the discussion.
Do you believe that at the current moment of deep crisis this country can afford to remain without a functioning parliament? And how do you see your role, that of your party, in getting out of the crisis, the head of state asked. What is MRF’s recipe for staging a dialogue, Radev also wanted to know.
Bulgaria is now amid a social, economic, healthcare and energy crises in Bulgaria. Inflation is galloping. We are already in a political crisis. Back in April, we declared that the recipe for forming a majority in the National Assembly and for constructing the now resigned government was wrong. Political logic states that state power, which is based on hatred, hostility, division and revanchism, cannot last. And it will collapse sooner or later, Mustafa Karadayi replied. It was back then that we also said that early elections were to come, he recalled.
We are a responsible party with 32 years of experience in Bulgarian political life. In similar crisis circumstances, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms has always played its trustworthy role, the party chairman said.
Early elections are needed if we want to change the formula by which the processes in the political field are carried out. To have a new house we need a new foundation. But until it comes to early elections, it is very important to decide what we must do. And we will bear our responsibility, Karadayi categorically said.
The consultations were very productive, we are satisfied. We hope that with our constructivism we have been useful to president Rumen Radev to make his decision, Mustafa Karadayi told the media after the conversation with the head of state.
The political situation now dictates that Bulgaria attains a values-based, homogenous, and stable Euro-Atlantic majority in the National Assembly and forms a government that abides by the same standards, the MRF leader said.
