“Since the beginning of the year, the scandalously high electricity bills have brought people out onto the streets, but their protests are not supported by the institutions.
What's more, if a consumer requests to have electricity meter checked, they have to pay for it! This is extremely unfair, because the risk of having to pay over EUR 60 out of their own pockets is deterring many people from requesting their measuring instruments to be checked.
Therefore, the Parliamentary Group of the MRF-NEW BEGINNING is introducing a change which will oblige the Energy and Water Regulation Commission to pay for these inspections. This will allow for over 100,000 electricity meters to be checked at the request of citizens.
In addition, these changes also envisage an audit of the systems used by the electricity and gas distribution companies to calculate bills, in order to ensure transparency and clarity.
For us, the commitment and responsibility of the state above all to protect the interests of the people is inviolable, regardless of any other political or any considerations to which the parties in the election campaign are clearly subject.”
