THE MOVEMENT FOR RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS PROPOSES THE RESTRICTION OF POLLING STATIONS ABROAD BE REMOVED

On the very first day of the plenary session of the 52nd National Assembly, the Parliamentary Group of the MRF submitted a draft law on amendments and supplements to the Electoral Code, in the aims of removing the restriction on polling stations in countries outside the European Union.
The motives behind the draft law state that the amendments to the Electoral Code made on the 27.02.2026 imposed substantial restrictions to the regime of polling stations outside the countries of the EU.
The motives further added that when these texts were voted on, the MRF categorically opposed their ratification. We expressed the view of the MRF that such restriction is discriminatory and anti-constitutional, leading to deprivation of the constitutional right of every Bulgarian citizen to exercise their right to vote, no matter where in the world they might be.
Even then the MRF expressed the indignation of Bulgarian communities living in the Republic of Turkey, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the USA against such discriminatory texts.
At the parliamentary elections of the 19.04.2026, despite the thousands of applications for polling stations in a number of countries outside the EU, such stations were not opened due to the restrictions imposed by the Electoral Code.
The draft law submitted by the MRF further proposes that this discriminatory, anti-constitutional restriction of political rights of Bulgarian citizens be removed, and that the previous manner for organising polling stations in countries outside the EU be restored.
